Manchester United did well to keep hold of David de Gea over the summer, largely thanks to a dodgy fax machine. Our current goalkeeping coach Eric Steele has been speaking to the press about the rate of his development, and its fair to say he’s thrilled.
“De Gea’s got the potential to be a great like Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.”
“He’s 25 now. Schmeichel didn’t go to United until he was 28, so this boy – this man, now – has got so much more to come.” Eric Steele said.
We’re certainly witnessing the growth of a Manchester United legend at this point in time. David de Gea is without doubt one of the best shot-stoppers in the world, and he is extremely young for a goalkeeper.
If he keeps progressing at this rate there is no doubt he’ll overtake Manuel Neuer as the best in the world in the not too distant future, which would be a fantastic achievement for the 25-year old.
