Manchester United ‘confident’ of landing £30m Luke Shaw

Manchester United are becoming increasingly confident of landing the signature of Southampton starlet Luke Shaw, according to the usually reliable Mark Ogden of the Telegraph. The deal is looking likely to happen before the World Cup, as David Moyes tries to rebuild an ageing United squad.

Shaw is one of the best young talents in world football at the moment, and looks to be the next starlet coming out of the famous Southampton youth academy following in the footsteps of players like Theo Walcott and Gareth Bale. At just 18-years of age, he has the potential to become United’s left-back for the next fifteen years making the reported £30m outlay definitely worth it.

The youngster has an outside chance of making Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad that’ll be jetting off to Brazil in June, and if he keeps putting in the excellent performances that we’ve seen of late, he could well persuade the England manager to take him.

Southampton have always stated that Shaw is not for sale at any price, but when big money is sent their way you’d feel £30m is too good to turn down for an 18-year old.

Patrice Evra is ageing, and looks to be off in the summer, and for me there is no better replacement for him than Luke Shaw. Young, English and hungry to play the game.
