Well, it has been around three weeks since Manchester United announced they had signed Daniel James from Swansea City.
Now, we finally know what shirt number he’ll be wearing. It comes from the official club website, who have today stated that James will wear the #21, previously worn by Ander Herrera before the Basque midfielder left on a free transfer.
James, aged just 21, had previously worn the #20 jersey at Swansea, although that number is currently taken by Diogo Dalot – probably meaning the Wales international opted for the nearest possible free number, which was 21.
With pre-season starting for most today, there was no James sighted in amongst training – probably due to his exploits for Wales last month – so we’ll have to wait a little longer to see our new man out on the training field with his new teammates.
Personally, I feel that the fact James is an unknown quantity plays into his advantage. Nobody is expecting him to come in and tear up the Premier League from day one. Instead, he can develop at his own pace and mature over time without any real pressure.
For us fans, it makes it all-the-more exciting. We know this guy is talented although we’re not sure exactly how he’ll fit in or where James will play. I just can’t wait to see him get going and hopefully, he hits the ground running during pre-season tour which kicks off next week.
