Manchester United consider 23-year-old powerhouse as a priority signing: report

Manchester United have not given up in their pursuit of signing AS Monaco’s Fabinho, despite the fact that the Red Devils are seemingly closing in on completing a deal for Chelsea star, Nemanja Matic. That’s according to RMC Sport, as per The Sun, who adds that the Brazilian is still a priority.

It is believed that discussions between the two parties have slowed somewhat, and Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain have also entered the race to sign Fabinho – which must be of some concern to Jose Mourinho.

For me, this would be the ideal signing. Fabinho is a mobile, defensive-minded midfielder who could come in and offer significant protection to the back four, whilst also allowing our attacking-minded midfielders to push forward.

The article claims that Fabinho is worth around £30million which seems like an absolute steal to me in the modern day market. My biggest concern is the fact that Mourinho seems intent on bringing in Matic, and it makes me wonder as to whether we need two holding midfielders coming in.

I like Matic, but if I had to choose between him and Fabinho, I’d opt for the latter every single time as he has a much bigger upside. First of all, he’s five-years younger, plus the aforementioned point that he can cover ground a lot quicker is huge. I’d also add that he’s probably better in possession.

At the end of the day, we simply just have to trust Mourinho and any decisions that our manager makes. He knows what we need and when it comes to identifying issues within a squad and fixing them, I don’t think there is anyone better.
