Manchester United Football Club desperately tried to sign a defender over the summer. That didn’t happen. However, Jose Mourinho still wants to bolster that area.
The latest name to be linked? Atletico Madrid defender, Lucas Hernandez. That’s according to France Football, translated by The Sun.
Apparently, the versatile 22-year-old recently signed a new contract with a huge £72million release clause, keeping him under contract until 2022. However, that asking price hasn’t put United off. Real Madrid are also keen.
To hear that United aren’t fussed about the asking price is great news. Money needs to be spent, as soon as possible.
Hernandez is an excellent talent, a World Cup winner, too… He was pivotal during France’s summer triumph, playing as a left-sided defender rather than a centre-half.
He’s still young and learning all the time. No doubt he’d frustrate on occasion, but in the long-term he’d be a brilliant acquisition.
With that said, I’d much prefer the Red Devils to chase the ready-made player, rather than taking another punt on a youngster (ala Eric Bailly & Victor Lindelof).
Toby Alderweireld would have been absolutely perfect. That deal obviously didn’t happen though, but the big Belgium centre-half may well be available next summer at an even cheaper price…
#mufc linked with Lucas Hernandez. Versatile, quick, talented, hungry. The Red Devils could do a lot worse… pic.twitter.com/pZ0knBaTJo
