Underwhelming. That’s the word I’d use to describe Manchester United’s transfer business so far. With less than three weeks to go until the deadline slams shut, Edward Woodward has work aplenty to do.
The Red Devils have been linked with several names, the latest player thrown into the ring? Bayern Munich centre-half Jerome Boateng. That’s according to German publication Kicker, translated by the Manchester Evening News. Furthermore, the outlet reckons a deal could be done for around £44.5million (€50m).
At 29, Boateng would bring some much-needed experience to the table. Despite all the defensive talent on the books at Old Trafford, time-and-time again last season, we witnessed the naivety that inexperience can bring. The German Boateng would change that almost immediately, while taking control of that back line.
He’d be the leader back there that has been lacking massively. We’ve seen him play on the biggest of stages before, no doubt he’d come to the Theatre of Dreams with a real swagger, too, after being prematurely let go by our rivals Manchester City. Boateng would have a Premier League point to prove. I’d love him to do that in the best way possible; by helping us wrestle the Premier League trophy away from their grasp.
