Manchester United cool their interest in talented 24-year-old: report

Yesterday we learnt that Manchester United are well on their way to completing a first summer signing. A fee has been agreed with SL Benfica for the purchase of Victor Lindelof, a 22-year-old centre-back known as the ‘Ice Man’.

Now, in turn, that has meant that United’s interest in former Red Devil Michael Keane has cooled. That’s according to The Metro, who say that Jose Mourinho was interested in signing the 24-year-old, but opted to bring in Lindelof instead.

Lindelof is expected to be the first of four summer signings at the Theatre of Dreams, with Spanish striker Alvaro Morata, set to come in too.

I think it’s pretty common knowledge that United have been desperate for a new centre-back signing for a few months now. Both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones seem to pick up injuries all the time, and when they do play, the majority of their performances have been underwhelming.

Basically, Marcos Rojo and Eric Bailly need help and Mourinho is a defence-first type manager, so this is a move that makes a whole lot of sense.

In terms of style, Lindelof is a centre-half who loves to play out from the back where possible. That’ll be a welcome addition, and although the aforementioned duo of Rojo and Bailly are solid defenders, sometimes their distribution can be poor.
