Manchester United are clearly intent on bringing in defenders this transfer window, with a move for Eric Bailly already sealed. Another man thought to be on Jose Mourinho’s wishlist is Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Club, but now, the Frenchman has penned a new contract with the Basque club.
The club confirmed a new contract agreement with the 22-year-old has been reached, with his new deal running right through until 2020. They have also announced that it currently has a release clause of £65million, which will rise to £70million in 2018.

This is a massive statement of intent from the Spanish side, but a massive blow for both Manchester clubs who were looking to bolster their defence. If a club wants to land Laporte, they will simply have to pay through the roof to land the extremely talented centre-back. Either that, or move on to other transfer targets – which is presumably exactly what Bilbao want.
