Manchester United have been dealt a further blow in their pursuit of Harry Maguire, as it looks as the centre-half will remain at Leicester City beyond this summer.
It already looked as though Maguire, 25, would be staying put, with The Foxes keen on keeping the Englishman at the King Power.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, a further blow has been suffered. They say that Maguire has featured in Leicester’s marketing and promotional campaign over the summer; hinting that the Midlands side believes ‘Slabhead’ will remain at the club for at least a further twelve months.
It seems pretty obvious to me that United are chasing a new centre-back signing hard. Jose Mourinho needs reinforcements back there, as the current crop haven’t been anywhere near good enough over the last twelve months. It just further highlights that there is so much work still to be done on this squad, and it could be a couple more seasons before the manager gets it right.
With a shortened window, though, due to the FA wanting all business done and dusted before the season starts, United are at a huge disadvantage. Leicester’s unwillingness to sell will only go stronger, purely as they won’t have enough time to find a suitable replacement.
