Manchester United dealt huge injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Manchester United’s biggest game of the season so far takes place at 17:30 GMT today, with Brendan Rodgers bringing his Liverpool side to town. Ahead of the game Louis van Gaal has been hit with a huge injury blow, as he is to be without his captain Wayne Rooney.

Rooney, 29, didn’t train yesterday claim the Manchester Evening News, who believe a hamstring issue will keep him out of the clash against United’s bitterest of rivals.

That means that there could be a huge start on the cards for Anthony Martial who recently signed from AS Monaco on transfer deadline day. Whether The Iron Tulip is ready to throw the 19-year old in there remains to be seen, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he starts from the bench and the boss opts for the more experienced Marouane Fellaini.

Lets face it, Rooney’s club form has been extremely poor of late and whoever comes in won’t have to do an awful lot to put in a better performance than our captain has recently.
