Manchester United have been handed a major blow, with Louis van Gaal confirming that both Bastian Schweinsteiger and Michael Carrick have been ruled out of the game against Liverpool. Carrick is still injured, whereas Bastian is on his way back, but needs more time.
Hopefully Manchester United have enough strength in depth to get through the next few games, allowing our key men to regain full fitness.
Van Gaal: “Schweinsteiger is coming back but he needs more time. Carrick is injured & cannot play against Liverpool.”
This is huge. It means that Manchester United are extremely short on numbers in the middle of the park, and arguably our two best performers in that area of the field have been ruled out of our biggest game of the season.
Morgan Schneiderlin will probably continue in the holding midfielder role, alongside the much-maligned Marouane Fellaini, who struggled against Newcastle United on Tuesday night.
