Manchester United are deep in talks to sign James Rodriguez from Real Madrid, as a replacement for Wayne Rooney. That’s according to The Independent, who add that Jose Mourinho is getting annoyed at Madrid’s unwillingness to budge on Alvaro Morata’s asking price.
However, they also add that as of yet, the tough negotiations regarding the 24-year-old striker haven’t affected the Red Devils’ plans to try and prise Rodriguez to Old Trafford.
Last term, Manchester United really struggled when it came to chance creation and carving out real goalscoring possibilities. The Colombian would give us a huge boost in that area of the field, and although he has spent plenty of time on the Madrid bench – that doesn’t take away from what a stunning footballer he is.
My main concern is that if Madrid were so tough regarding Morata negotiations, why does Edward Woodward and co. suddenly think that they are going to be much easier to deal with when it comes to Rodriguez?
Obviously, relationships between the two clubs must be strained after the whole David de Gea fax machine saga, and you’d understand their unwillingness to deal with United.
With that said, Rodriguez didn’t make the Champions League final squad, so perhaps he could be pushing for a move.
