During every summer transfer window, not only do we see players coming through the entrance doors, we also see players leaving – as a way of balancing the books. That’s especially the case when a new manager is preparing for a second season in charge, as Mourinho has now had a chance to take a good look at the players at his disposal.
One name being linked with a potential departure from Old Trafford is Matteo Darmian, and Goal, via the Daily Express, are claiming that the Italian is being linked with a move back home, with Juventus interested in securing his services.
The Turin club have made Darmian one of their primary targets, with right-back Dani Alves set to complete a move to Manchester City in the not too distant future.
I’m not sure what to make of this move. Darmian worked wonders at left-back at times this season, and he did a fantastic job of filling in where needed. He really cemented the spot and made it his own as the season drew to a close, including putting in a commanding performance in the Europa League final.
Is the 27-year-old good enough to start at left-back for a side hoping to challenge for the title? Probably not as he’s just not effective enough when going forward. I’d love to see Luke Shaw given a regular run in the side, and if the club can get a decent fee for Darmian, it would make sense to let him go.
