Manchester United invested heavily over the summer, as Jose Mourinho looks to bring in players that fit his style of play and tactics. However, alongside incoming signings, there has to be players leaving to balance the books – but one man has reiterated his desire to stay at Old Trafford.
That man is Matteo Darmian, and it wasn’t that long ago when the Daily Mirror quote Italian reports, saying that the Italian was seriously considering his future at the club…
In a fortunate change of events for the 27-year-old, he has been used a lot more regularly due to various injuries in the squad, and now it looks as though he has completely done a U-turn and is more than happy to remain a Red Devil.
“I play for one of the biggest clubs in the world so I’m happy. I listen and read about the transfer but I don’t know anything. At the moment, nothing is true. I will continue to do my job and want to stay here.” Matteo Darmian is quoted as saying by ESPN.
“I’m a natural right-back but playing on the left is not a big problem. I’ve been at left-back the last few matches and I feel comfortable in that position.”
“The manager has to take a decision. Sometimes I’m out of the squad — definitely at the beginning — but I worked hard to take my chance when the manager gave it to me. Now I’m playing and of course I’m happy.”
To be fair to Matteo Darmian, he has taken his chance really well for the most part, albeit out of position at left-back. He’s definitely worked his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans, and you have to say it’ll be a real struggle for Luke Shaw to earn that spot back – particularly given the recent form of the young Englishman.
That said, I personally feel he’s a far better option out at right-back because that’s obviously his natural place on a football field. The form of Antonio Valencia is just insanely good at the moment, so Darmian will probably have to stay out on the left for the foreseeable future.
