Manchester United defensive duo miss training before Real Madrid clash: report

A key Manchester United defensive duo have missed training, just hours before the Red Devils gear up to take on Real Madrid.

That’s according to ESPN’s Rob Dawson, who adds that Diogo Dalot was also involved in the session, although the young man from Portugal was training separately. Ander Herrera also wasn’t involved.

Honestly, the injury issues are starting to get rather annoying; and we’re only in pre-season. Marcos Rojo’s out, as is Nemanja Matic and Antonio Valencia. Defensively, we’re a mess after losing our two best centre-halves over the last couple of seasons.

When Bailly was signed by Mourinho, eyebrows were immediately raised. However, the Ivorian made an excellent start to life at Old Trafford and emerged as arguably the best centre-half at the club. Injuries hampered him last season, and to hear that he’s now missing training is a major concern.

Smalling’s rarely out injured, although he did miss out against Liverpool for whatever reason. With less than two weeks left until the new season, the Englishman simply has to get himself ready to go against Leicester City. If we don’t sign a new defender, he’ll likely be the first name on the team-sheet defensively.

As for Herrera, he’s a battler. Unless it’s something serious, the Basque-born midfielder will always battle through a game and put in a shift for his teammates; that’s just his nature.
