Manchester United and the FA Cup is often a match made in heaven. From that Ryan Giggs goal to lifting the trophy during Louis van Gaal’s last Red Devils game. More often than not, it has provided us with happy memories.
Last year, United were dumped out of the competition by a high-flying Wolverhampton Wanderers side. This year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that lightning doesn’t strike twice.
Yes, United have been drawn against Wolves this year too, with the game to be played at Molineux in early January. The club confirmed the news earlier today.
Given the respective form of both clubs, this is already looking like a tough ask for United. Wolves have had our number since their return to the Premier League, and United hardly have the confidence flowing at this point in time.
Nuno Espirito Santo will no doubt be feeling buoyant. The Midlands club get up for games like this and it’s up to this United squad to rise to the occasion. The FA Cup is an excellent chance at winning a trophy, and a good run can work wonders for dressing room morale. A win against the Midlands outfit in early January could well be the confidence-booster that we all need.
I guess the only positive is that we’ve not been drawn at home to Reading – which seems to be a recurring theme of late…
