Manchester United’s U21s took to the field last night, and were on the wrong side of a 3-2 defeat to Leicester City’s youngsters. In somewhat ironic fashion, the final Leicester goal was one that was made in Manchester, as Tom Lawrence assisted Jack Barmby to seal United’s first loss of the season at reserve level.
There was another interesting piece of news that came out of that game though, as Paddy McNair missed out. It is believed that he was pulled out of the squad due to Chris Smalling’s ban, and Marcos Rojo’s injury at the weekend – probably meaning he is set to feature in the match day squad vs Crystal Palace at the very least.
McNair made an excellent first-team debut at home to Everton just a few weeks a go, and arguably was the reason we walked away with all three points. He made a superb diving backwards clearance to prevent Romelu Lukaku finding the back of the net late on.
Since then he has made some great substitute appearances for Louis van Gaal, and he’ll more than warrant a start in the side.
