After big spending Paris Saint-Germain ruled themselves out of the Angel di Maria race because he is ‘too expensive’, Manchester United are now the favourites for the Argentine’s signature. According to the Daily Star, the Old Trafford club are currently weighing up a £50million move for the talented winger.
After a stunning season at Real Madrid, you do wonder why they are prepared to offload one of their brightest sparks. However, after spending bid on James Rodriguez you feel that Angel di Maria will be made to start on the bench most matches – which is kind of unfair after arguably the best season in his professional career.
This leads us onto our next point; the transfer fee. Real Madrid are after a figure somewhere around the £50million mark purely because of how well he did last year. He was outstanding for both club and country, and he showed his versatility by playing in a number of different positions.
Louis van Gaal would have to use him as a wingback if he were to come in, and although his attacking abilities are up there with the best in the world, I’m not sure how good he is defensively.
£50million is a lot of money, and Louis van Gaal has recently said that Manchester United need a world class winger. Angel di Maria certainly fits that status, but will we see a bid go in? With around three weeks until deadline day, we’ll know soon enough.
