Despite several failed attempts at signing a new centre-back, it seems as though Jose Mourinho isn’t giving up just yet…
A summer of failure must have been disappointing, but with a January transfer window on the horizon, Manchester United are now eyeing a cut-price move for Tottenham Hotspur’s world-class defender, Toby Alderweireld.
That’s according to Standard Sport, per 101 Great Goals, and with a contract clause that comes into activation next summer, Spurs could be looking to move the Belgian on for more than the £24.5million that he’d be available for come June 2019.
For United, this is the perfect scenario. Spurs have a decision to make. Do they stick or twist? Whatever the decision, the Red Devils have a great opportunity at landing a top level defender at a relatively good price.
It’s experience that is missing. United need that Premier League proven defensive leader. Alderwiereld fits that bill perfectly. Personally, I’d love to see Edward Woodward pay whatever it takes to get this deal done in January, but you can bet your bottom dollar that Daniel Levy will want to keep ahold of the 29-year-old.
Hopefully, United come out on top and they have a world-class player that they can put their trust in.
