Manchester United eyeing deal to bring winger to Old Trafford – report

Manchester United Football Club have been on a good run on the pitch lately, as Jose Mourinho seems to finally have found a winning formula. January is underway now, meaning clubs are free to make transfer moves if they so choose – and now reports are linking a new face to the club.

The man in question is Gelson Martins, and Portuguese media outlet A Bola say that Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are ready to step up their interest in the man born in Cape Verde.

Martins, 21, currently plays for Sporting CP in Portugal, but Manchester United would face fierce competition for his signature, with Real Madrid also interested in his services. Well, that’s what this report from the Daily Mirror seems to think anyway.

Sporting has often produced plenty of talent that have gone on to bigger and better things, just look at how well Cristiano Ronaldo has done. However, there is always some sort of a gamble involved when buying youngsters because you never know exactly how they’ll fair in another country and a brand new environment.

In my opinion, I’d much prefer the club to go after a proven player in one of European football’s top leagues instead, but I highly doubt any incoming transfer business will be happening in January.
