Manchester United are no longer favourites to prise Mats Hummels away from Borussia Dortmund, as Arsenal take charge of the race to sign the World Cup winner. According to the Express, Arsenal are preparing to launch a huge £32million bid for Hummels, who turns 26 in December.
Hummels was linked with a move to Old Trafford quite heavily in the summer, but it never came to fruition and the Dortmund man was eventually made captain of his current club. Hummels then came out and admitted that although he is flattered by United’s interest, he is very happy in Dortmund at this current time.
Manchester United need world class centre-backs. Phil Jones is a good player, as is Marcos Rojo. They aren’t world class though, and somebody like Hummels alongside either of the aforementioned duo would be absolutely perfect.
