Somehow, Manchester United could not bundle the ball into the back of the net this afternoon against a resilient Burnley side, where three points for the Red Devils was an absolute must. How the game finished 0-0 is beyond me, but there were a few questionable decisions on the day.
Jose Mourinho decided to haul Juan Mata off as the game wore on, and although United had ten men on the field, everything good was going through the Spaniard.
He was picking the ball up in pockets of space and finding the right pass to get United back on the attack. When the number eight appeared on the fourth official’s board, everyone sat around me in Old Trafford thought it was a mistake….
It really was a bizarre decision, particularly when the players replacing him were Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini who have about as much creativity as Juan Mata’s little finger between them.
The fans clearly weren’t happy with that choice and took to Twitter to vent their anger at the gaffer – and rightly so.
Check out the tweets about Juan Mata here:
Jose too. He has to be culpable. Why bring Mata off? Who was our best player by a mile. For Rooney/Fellaini as well…

My face when Mourinho decided to take of #Mata – easily our most dangerous player in the second half #FullTimeFrancis @francis_maxwell pic.twitter.com/7vSSPwQRFN

Can stomach the refereeing & the poor finishing, but watching Juan Mata's number being held up was too much to take… #baffling

Why why why why why is Wayne Rooney taking that shot and Juan Mata sitting on the bench. Why.
