On Wednesday night, Manchester United handed a debut to Nemanja Matic. The 29-year-old midfielder signed for the Red Devils just a couple of days ago, and already, the Serbia international is getting his first minutes as a United man.
Matic only played the first half, and that was expected due to the fact that he has no minutes under his belt in pre-season so far. It was a good 45 for Jose Mourinho’s new signing – purely in terms of fitness as he looks to get set for the new season.
From minute one, I was supremely impressed. He was bossing his teammates around and telling them where to go, and that leadership in the middle is something we’ve lacked recently.
On top of that, he was winning pretty much every duel he got himself involved in, and he didn’t mind getting stuck in and throwing his weight around where needed. It was such a good sight seeing him absolutely boss the midfield, and he already looks at home at Manchester United.
It’s fair to say that social media was awash with compliments for what was an excellent start for Matic, and now, he already has a great platform to build upon.
Have a look at the tweets aimed at Nemanja Matic below:
Matic doing a super job of breaking up the play and protecting the back four. Such a quietly good bit of business.

Its only a "friendly" but even those that doubted Matić, can at least for the time being admit the difference he makes to Pogba. #MUTOUR

Love fact that Matic can come straight in and start telling team-mates where to move, play and pass. Confident and tidy. And good in tackle!

United have got a proper defensive midfielder in Matic with years ahead of him not on the decline. I'm shedding a tear here.
