Diogo Dalot, along with millions of Manchester United fans, have been waiting for this moment all summer.
The 19-year-old right-back, signed from FC Porto, made his Red Devils debut away at Young Boys this evening – and it was great to see the new signing in action for the first time.
In two U23s appearances, the £19million man looked a cut above. Jose Mourinho couldn’t have chosen a better game to give him a run-out, and from the get-go, Dalot looked right at home.
Strong, quick, excellent on the ball and tough in the tackle, all the full-back attributes were on display throughout. Perhaps what was most impressive was the excellent crossing ability that he possesses, firing in a few balls that gave the Young Boys defence real problems.
After only playing a handful of first-team games in his career, Dalot came to Old Trafford as an unknown quantity, although it’s early, it was brilliant watching him bomb up and down that right-hand side in a natural manner. So often we’ve been accustomed to out-of-position players stuck in the full-back slots, and now it looks as though those days are coming to an end (thankfully).
As you’d imagine, United fans were buzzing all over social media, and hopefully, this is the start of a long and fruitful United career for the young man.

Dalot and Shaw starting as full backs for the first time together, a midfield three of Fred, Pogba and Matic and a front three of Martial, Lukaku and Rashford. We’re being blessed tonight.
