Manchester United Football Club signed the little-known right-back Diogo Dalot from FC Porto over the summer.
The 19-year-old missed pre-season as he was nursing an injury, but Dalot finally made his eagerly anticipated debut for the club; during an U23s match last night.
Despite only having a handful of competitive appearances under his belt, Dalot comes in with a big reputation. It was certainly intriguing to see him involved for the first time; and it was a mature performance from the young man.
He looks quick, showed a real willingness to bomb forward and help out in on the attack, while remaining solid defensively. In terms of stature, he’s a tall fellow meaning aerially, he should have no problems when going up in one-on-one battles against wingers.
Sure, this isn’t anywhere near to the level that we expect him to play at and it will take him some time to get fully up to speed.
It’s just nice for Jose Mourinho to potentially have another option in such a key area of the field. Don’t be surprised if he makes his fair share of Premier League starts this term.
Anyway, as you’d imagine, Twitter was awash with United fans full of praise for their new idol:

Diogo Dalot off for George Tanner. Got 78 minutes. Decent run out. Not really tested defensively but tried to get forward and put a couple of good crosses into the box. All positive.

Diogo Dalot looks like he can cross. Finally, a RB who can actually cross. I’ve waited years for this.

Dalot subbed off near the 75th and while there wasn't too much to talk about as he was rarely tested defensively I must say I leave optimistic on his future
– Surprisingly athletic for his age and size. Quick, agile
– intelligent
– skilled dribbler
– his crossing looks sharp— Mike Ⓜ (@UtdExcellence) August 31, 2018
Dalot is much bigger than I thought. And he can cross. That's already an upgrade on what we have.
