Manchester United were outclassed and outplayed by Arsenal Football Club earlier today, with Arsene Wenger getting the better of Louis van Gaal, and quite comfortably too. One player who under performed yet again was captain Wayne Rooney.
The 29-year old played ‘in the hole’ behind Anthony Martial, but he couldn’t get anything going, particularly in the first half. He barely got a touch on the ball, and when he did he either gave it away or tried something audacious – his afternoon was summed up when he tried to chip Petr Cech from outside the area when the goalkeeper was on his line.
As you’d expect, Manchester United fans were gunning for the captain via Twitter, as they call for him to be benched, despite wearing the armband.

Everytime Wayne Rooney starts, Manchester United, as a football club, goes 4 steps backwards.

What happened to the Wayne Rooney who wore his heart on his sleeve? The one who played with pure passion? Gutless display from him.

I've defended Wayne Rooney, but even I've had enough…
Captain's don't hide away!
He needs to be dropped!
He look 47 years old!

Someone explain to me what Wayne Rooney offers to our team? I'm being serious. What does he give us when he starts? #mufc
