Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard put pen to paper on a new deal at the club earlier today, meaning he’ll be a Red Devil until at least 2021, with the option for a further year. The 24-year-old has been at the club since the age of seven, and I’m absolutely delighted for the young man.
The Warrington-born winger is reportedly now on a £100,000-a-week deal, which will net him a hefty amount of money throughout the duration of his four-year contract.
For some reason, Lingard is now coming in for some stick on social media, bizarrely from Manchester United fans. We’ve compiled a list of some of the best tweets, most of which seem really pleased with the deal, and rightly so.
Check out the tweets aimed at Jesse Lingard here:
Jesse Lingard, thought useful by Fergie, Scholes, Van Gaal and Mourinho, but not yer da. Never a first XI player, but already of plenty use.

Plenty of people I'd have out of the Utd squad quick as I'd look at them. Lingard isn't one of them. Decent squad player, the hate is odd.

100k isn't a lot, Lingard a very good squad option, never moans, performs his role v.well, rarely injured, has scored big goals. No issue.

I like Lingard. Like I liked Brown, Fletch, Sheasy and others before him. I hope he posts a pic of him lighting cigars with £50 notes

How many Top Red points do I lose by not expressing anger on Twitter about (scorer in FA & EFL Cup finals) Lingard's new contract?

Why are so many people arsed about the Lingard fee? Not as if it's coming out of your back pocket. Club clearly think he's worth it.

This is a local lad, who, let’s not forget has played a huge hand in our last two major trophies won. He scored that stunning goal in the FA Cup final in extra time, and also found the back of the net in the EFL Cup final a couple of months ago.
On top of that, he’s a player who always puts in a shift, makes intelligent runs and really is a nightmare for the opposing defenders to deal with. I’m over the moon for Lingard, and now we’ve tied him down for his best years, which is great.
