Manchester United Football Club have a whole host of their players taking part in the European Championships this summer – three of which got on the field for England today. However, one man stole the show with a Scholes-esque performance in the middle of the park.
Wayne Rooney was absolutely everywhere from minute one. He picked the right pass more often than not, and when the going got tough, he grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and took control for his country.
What a display from the Manchester United and England captain, and it’s brilliant to see that he has found a new place in the team at the heart of the midfield.
Hopefully, this is where his long-term future in football is for both club and country, because the way he finds that space in the middle of the field, and finds a teammate has been outstanding.
As you’d imagine, the fans were buzzing for their captain all over social media.

Rooney once again fantastic. Can’t believe pre tournament the amount of people saying he shouldn’t be playing. Absolute crazy !!

Rooney’s class. knows his days are over playing up top, still probably better than half of midfielders. Hate as much as you like. Class act.

Rooney set the tone, he really did. That second-half was a battering.

That was squeaky bum time – not good enough but got the win – fair play to Rooney – he covered every blade of grass there ⚽️

Rooney’s distribution is world class. Always looks like he has time when on the ball, a clear sign of ability in a player.
