Well, it had certainly been a while coming, but Alexis Sanchez put in a performance to be proud of against Swansea City.
The Chile star had largely struggled since his move from Arsenal to Old Trafford, scoring just the once before today, but it all clicked into place nicely for the Red Devils’ new #7, with Swansea on the receiving end of a top-drawer individual display.
Although his goal was a thing of beauty, I’d like to put that aside for just one second. For now, I want to focus on his sheer determination, desire and work-rate. When Sanchez loses the ball, I love his attitude in trying to atone for his error, and more often than not today, he did win possession back.
That effort is something that the Old Trafford faithful absolutely love, and as long as he’s giving his all for the cause, Sanchez will always be adored by the fans.
Now to his goal, the former FC Barcelona star owes Jesse Lingard a huge pat on the back because the ball into him was inch-perfect. There was still some work to do though, with Sanchez finishing off the opportunity wonderfully well.
As you’d imagine, the United fans were absolutely buzzing all over social media, and rightly so as it was a joy watching him play this afternoon. Check out the best tweets below:

2-0 for Manchester United. Alexis Sanchez gets his name on the scoresheet. The Chilean also celebrates with his teammates. Not bad for a player who reportedly eats alone at AON Training Complex. #MUFC

FT 2-0. Disappointing how United surrendered the initiative after half time and had to rely on Dave to preserve the two goal lead. Nevertheless, great to see Sanchez have an impact going forward. Mata, Lukaku, Pogba and Young impressive as well.

This is more like the Sanchez we’ve been waiting for. Expect this to be what we see regularly next season when he’s had a pre-season with us and settled properly.

Fantastic goal by Alexis Sánchez. This is the Manchester United I want to see week in, week out. We’ve been really good today thus far.

Sanchez needed that performance to be honest. Think people were starting to lose confidence in him & he was losing it in himself too.. fantastic!
