Manchester United dropped two careless points at the Theatre of Dreams this weekend, as Swansea City were allowed a way back into the game late on. On the whole, our performance just wasn’t good enough, and if we continue like that then there is absolutely no chance we will be in the Champions League next season.
The poor result came from Jose Mourinho’s side sitting back and allowing our opponents onto them. Isn’t it pretty obvious that if you invite pressure like that then the other team will eventually find a way through and score? One man seems to be coming in for all the stick; Wayne Rooney.
Although the club captain found the back of the net from the penalty spot, you do find it hard to see what else he did right in the 90-minute match. He looked slow, his passing was awful and he just didn’t grab the game by the scruff of its neck.
We needed a leader when the going got tough and the 31-year-old from Croxteth just didn’t step up. Instead, he hid until Mourinho was forced into substituting the forward.
As you’d imagine, Twitter didn’t have the kindest of words for Rooney following the match, and in all honesty, you find it hard to disagree with anything that the fans are saying right now.
Have a look at the tweets aimed at Wayne Rooney here:
Rooney looks like an ex-pro in a Soccer Aid game getting annoyed because Ben Shephard and the lad from JLS are skinning him every time

Jose must be ruthless this Summer. Time to end the farce that is Jones and Smalling at Man Utd and rid us of the Rooney problem

If this isn't evidence enough that Rooney is completely done at the top level I don't know what is.

Time to get rooney off the payroll 300k a week for these performances is shocking to say the least

So frequently top sportsmen don't know when to quit. Watching Rooney reminds me of the great Muhammad Ali's last few fights. He's done.

Rooney's lack of performance/leadership today has all but confirmed he wont be at Utd next year, been a great servant, but time to move on

Just think, #mufc were a Wayne Rooney foul away from the top three today.
