Manchester United first-teamer dropped to reserves as he played for U21s last night

Manchester United’s U21s took on Liverpool’s youth side last night, with Louis van Gaal choosing to drop Marouane Fellaini down to play with the younger players. This either shows that the Dutchman is done with his hoof-ball tactics, or he feels that the big Belgian needs match fitness.

Personally, I hope its the former. There is no doubting that he works hard and he gives his all every time he takes to the field, but he just doesn’t feel like a Manchester United player.

When he comes onto the pitch our tactics change dramatically, and the manager seems to revert to just lobbing the ball up for him and hoping he can win his headers. Perhaps the Iron Tulip has seen the light, and realised it isn’t the United way.

Nick Powell also continued his comeback in this game, and Andreas Pereira began the match too.
