Manchester United given boost in their pursuit of powerhouse: report

Manchester United could be well on their way to completing their second signing of the summer, in the form of Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic. That’s according to the Daily Mail, who say that Conte is close to agreeing a deal to bring Tiemoue Bakayoko to Stamford Bridge; meaning Matic will be free to leave.

Matic was an integral part of Chelsea’s title-winning side, but Italian boss Conte is willing to listen to offers for the Serbian powerhouse. This comes just days after news broke that the player wanted a reunion with his former manager, Jose Mourinho.

The 28-year-old would bring some much-needed combativeness to a midfield that isn’t blessed with real strength in depth in terms of defensive ability. I’d have no doubts that if he did make the move to the Theatre of Dreams, he’d be almost a guaranteed starter alongside Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.

With that said, I would see the signature as a rather underwhelming one. He’s not a player that excites, rather he’d be in the team to do a job, allowing other players to show off their flair and creativity.

Mourinho is a coach that we have to put 100% trust in though, and obviously, he’ll know Matic’s game inside-out from their time together with Chelsea.
