Manchester United given timely injury boost as 23-year-old returns to squad

Manchester United take on Southampton tomorrow, in Jose Mourinho’s Old Trafford bow. His side started off in excellent fashion with a hard-fought 3-1 victory against AFC Bournemouth last weekend. However, one man missed that game through a niggling injury.

The man in question is obviously Jesse Lingard, and the Englishman scored a real cracker at Wembley Stadium to help his side secure the Community Shield. He looked a shoe-in to start last weekend before picking up that knock, but now he is back in training, and likely to be in the squad.

That’s according to Simon Stone of the BBC, but he adds it didn’t sound like Jose Mourinho plans to start the 23-year-old winger.

Honestly, it wouldn’t be wholly surprising if we saw Lingard get the start. Jose clearly loves his work ethic, and we’ve all seen just how deadly of a finisher he can be when presented with an opportunity. He only missed one week of training at the most, so that shouldn’t harm his overall fitness too badly.
