Manchester United goalkeeper to hold showdown talks with Jose Mourinho – report

Manchester United Football Club are a side drenched in rich history, tradition and quality players, and Jose Mourinho further added to that this summer with brilliant signings. However, there is only eleven spots on a team-sheet, and that means some players will miss out on all-important game-time.

One man who has always played second fiddle is goalkeeper Sergio Romero, and with David de Gea in front of him, the Argentine is always going to find minutes on the pitch limited.

In an exclusive, The Sun say that the 29-year-old goalkeeper is to hold showdown talks with Jose Mourinho and ask the self-proclaimed Special One if he can leave when the summer transfer window comes around.

The goalkeeper is apparently happy at United, but the offer of first-team football is just too good for him to turn down, and Romero’s representatives will fly into Manchester to meet the manager to discuss the future of the shot-stopper.

To be fair to Sergio Romero, he has done a brilliant job whenever called upon, and he deserves massive credit for that. However, as we’ve already said, he’s never going to displace David de Gea as our number one, and you’d completely understand if he decides to move away for the good of his own career.

If he does leave, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mourinho decided to give the backup job to one of Sam Johnstone or Joel Pereira next term. Both of those guys have been really positive with the reserves and shown quality goalkeeping when out on loan too. Personally, I’d feel comfortable with both of those two deputising in future.
