Manchester United handed huge injury boost as star set to return to training: report

Manchester United’s Eric Bailly is set to hand Jose Mourinho a huge boost, by returning to training in time for the Red Devils’ game against Sevilla on Wednesday.

That’s what the Manchester Evening News writes anyway, with the Ivorian’s return extremely timely due to some incredibly poor form from both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

The 23-year-old is set to take part in United’s training session on Friday, giving him a few days before the squad jets out to Spain.

Whether Bailly will play in the all-important first leg is another matter entirely. He’s been out injured for two months, but after a stop-start season, his match fitness is bound to be extremely low.

Honestly, I wouldn’t risk it in the first game. I’d assess the options, let him recuperate some more and potentially play him in the return fixture at Old Trafford in early March.

The worst case scenario would be Bailly rushing back from this issue, then re-aggravating the injury and making the situation worse. He’s comfortably our best defender and we’ll definitely need him for the run-in, particularly if we manage to progress into the latter stages of both the FA Cup and Champions League.
