For Manchester United, things have all gone rather quiet on the transfer front.
It’s not for the want of trying, mind, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doing his utmost and looking at several different names.
Well, we could be on the verge of hearing something concrete, as yesterday, La Voix du Nord are claiming that United are amongst the clubs that have reached a ‘global agreement’ to sign 24-year-old Nicolas Pepe from Lille this summer…
The Reds aren’t alone, though, with the article also naming Napoli and Inter Milan as the other teams who have reached said agreement.
There’s no doubting that United still have several gaps within their squad, right-wing being one of those. However, I’d much prefer to see Solskjaer give Mason Greenwood and Tahith Chong minutes out there, while focusing on adding a top-drawer centre-half and central-midfield player if possible.
In terms of a fee, €80m (£71.6m) is what Lille are after via Sport Witness, which is an awful amount of money for a player who has only really broken through over the last twelve months or so…
For me, it’s not worth the gamble. I can see why there is an attraction there, but I’d much prefer the Reds to go after a Jadon Sancho (if he’s a possibility) next summer.
