Manchester United have always had a talent for unearthing young talents and harnessing their ability.
Last night, there were teenagers galore on the field at full-time. Tahith Chong and Mason Greenwood will scoop all the headlines, but I’d like to talk about the mega-talented, 19-year-old, Diogo Dalot.
Having started the season injured, Dalot had to patiently wait for his opportunity. He made a few appearances under Jose Mourinho, looking extremely promising in the process.
He, like everyone else, has only improved under the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regime. We’re now seeing the immense potential that this young man possesses.
Twice in a week, Dalot has been the difference-maker. It was his sheer willingness to get forward that broke down a resilient Southampton defence on Saturday. The way he celebrated with the fans and his teammates was wonderful to see. He loves winning. He gets this club.
Against PSG we saw similar qualities. I genuinely can’t remember the last time we had a right-back who can skip past his opposite number with such ease. Again, it was a display way beyond his years.
Aged just nineteen, the room for growth is huge. This is a boy who’ll only get better and better. Honestly, I don’t think it’ll be long before a certain Ashley Young is sat on the bench watching Dalot don out in his now customary right-back position.
I don’t think it’ll be long before it happens, either. He’s just too talented. The confidence is wonderful, the positional sense is flawless, the pace, the height, the aerial ability. Dalot has it all and he’s ours.
I guess all that’s left to say is thanks
