Manchester United hero claims Matteo Darmian has ‘gone off the boil’

Manchester United made a £12million move to bring the little-known Matteo Darmian to Manchester United over the summer, with plenty of fans criticising Louis van Gaal for doing so, when Nathaniel Clyne was available for the same price.

He started like a house on fire, but that has changed over recent games, and one of Manchester United’s most iconic left-backs in Dennis Irwin has shared his thoughts on the situation.

“Darmian came in and started fantastically well and I think when you get used to the Premier League you sometimes go off the boil.” Irwin said. “But Darmian’s got competition because Ashley’s done unbelievably well there.”

He’s right, too. Not many knew an awful lot about Darmian when he arrived at Old Trafford, but his first few games were fantastic. Over the last month or so he has struggled severely, but you’d imagine an international player of his stature will re-find form sooner rather than later, and continue to impress the fans.
