Manchester United’s injury-hit last month or so just seems to be getting worse. Jose Mourinho is already without the services of Eric Bailly and Antonio Valencia for the long-term, and now, another defender has seemingly been caught by the bug.
Defender Chris Smalling has reportedly suffered a broken toe in training, and is expected to miss at least four weeks of action which is another huge problem for the defensive situation at the Theatre of Dreams.
Over the last twelve months or so, you have to say that Smalling has been by far and away our best defender. Now, to be without him for the busy winter period is just massive. I wouldn’t be surprised to see us ship a whole load of goals in the coming weeks.
The only senior centre-backs available to Jose are Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo. The gaffer also has the option to play Timothy Fosu-Mensah back there, which may become a reality in the not too distant future because we all know how injury-prone the aforementioned pair are.
