Manchester United Football Club will battle FC Barcelona for the signature of Sevilla centre-back Clement Lenglet.
That’s according to The Sun, per the Manchester Evening News, with the report adding the caveat that Lenglet is now Jose Mourinho’s primary summer transfer target.
Apparently, the self-proclaimed Special One was impressed with the 22-year-old’s performances against the Red Devils in the Champions League earlier on this season.
The manager is thought to be growing in restlessness with his defenders, hence the interest in signing one this summer, and he believes that Lenglet would succeed in the English game.
If Mourinho’s last signing from Spain was anything to go by (Bailly), I wouldn’t doubt the fact that Lenglet can play. Our Ivorian is a sensational defender (when injury free), and if he can find the ideal partner for Bailly, I’d be absolutely thrilled.
No doubt the board would be happy with this deal too, with the report claiming that he’d cost somewhere around the £20million mark. In the modern game that’s an absolute bargain, even more so when you consider that Manchester City paid three times that to sign Aymeric Laporte just in January…
