Manchester United are closing in on making their first signing of the summer transfer window. That’s according to Spanish media outlet Marca, translated by The Sun. The man in question is AS Monaco’s brilliant midfielder, Fabinho.
The 23-year-old is apparently close to making a move to the Theatre of Dreams in a deal worth around £50million. Fabinho was a part of that sublime AS Monaco side that broke PSG’s grip on the Ligue 1 title, as well as reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, that young team are being broken up pretty quickly, with Bernardo Silva already joining Manchester City. It was also thought that our neighbours were keen on signing Fabinho, but at this point in time, it looks as though we have a clear run at him.
This is the type of signing that I’d expect our manager to make. Jose Mourinho loves those versatile players, and although you’d imagine Fabinho would come in predominantly as a defensive midfielder, he could also do a job at right-back if needed.
For me, he’s the final piece for our midfield jigsaw. Fabinho could sit at the base, allowing both Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera to play in a more advanced role.
I just hope that we can push this move over the line sooner rather than later before any other clubs declare an interest in him, because he’s a wonderfully gifted footballer.
