Manchester United in pole position to sign excellent left-back this summer: report

I think it comes as no secret that Manchester United are looking at potential options when it comes to signing a left-back this summer. For all his talents, Luke Shaw has been less than convincing, with Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind both doing a solid job out there; but nothing more than that…

Now the Daily Mirror claim that Manchester United are favourites to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose over the summer period. The North London club are apparently bracing themselves to lose the England international, with Jose Mourinho in pole position and ready to swoop.

Mauricio Pochettino is already eyeing replacements with Rose seeking a move back up North. Pep Guardiola is also keen on the man from Doncaster, but the report says AS Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy is their top target, leaving United in a commanding position if they choose to sign Rose.

Apparently, wages are the issue. Daniel Levy likes to run a tight ship at White Hart Lane, and Spurs aren’t prepared to give in to Rose’s wage demands which is fair enough.

I like Rose as a player, but is he really that much of an upgrade on Luke Shaw? You may say that Shaw is never fit, but Rose too is equally guilty of suffering injuries that have kept him out of action for the long term.

On top of that, Spurs will absolutely charge through the roof for him because let’s be honest, they always do. Probably even more so because of the fact that he is English.
