Manchester United have shown an interest in signing Napoli defender Elseid Hysaj.
That’s according to SportItalia, translated by talkSPORT, who adds that Chelsea are currently leading the charge to sign the man from Albania, while Liverpool are also showing an interest.
Apparently, the 24-year-old right-back has a £43.7m (€50m) release clause in his current contract, meaning that Napoli would have no say in his transfer providing that price was met. In the modern day game, it’s seriously worth considering paying that amount.
Hysaj is an impressive, predominantly right-sided full-back who’d provide some much-needed cover for an ageing Antonio Valencia, and the fact that the elite Premier League sides are interested tells you everything you need to know about his overall ability.
For whatever reason, Jose Mourinho doesn’t fully trust Luke Shaw, whereas Matteo Darmian just hasn’t been good enough. Our wing-back area certainly needs work and bringing in Hysaj would be an excellent start.
He’s quick, an excellent, physical defender and pretty good in the air. Defenders all seem to improve under the self-proclaimed Special One, and although it may take him some time to adapt to the English game, it’s a signing I can fully understand.
