Manchester United’s summer transfer window has been both a success but slightly disappointing, after the big-money moves for Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin came the sale of Angel di Maria and still no centre-back coming through the Old Trafford doors, however that could change.
According to ESPN, Manchester United are set to challenge Chelsea for the signature of John Stones, and are prepared to use Jonny Evans as a makeweight in the deal.
There is no doubting that Manchester United do need a centre-back, but personally I’d like to see someone with more experience come in, particularly at the fees being mentioned. John Stones would cost upwards of £30million, and you could probably get the tried and tested Nicolas Otamendi in for around that price.
Until Louis van Gaal delves into the market for a top quality centre-back I struggle to see how we’ll challenge for the title this year, but there is no doubting our squad has certainly improved upon last campaign.
