Manchester United Football Club will almost certainly be in the market for plenty of new signings this summer, particularly after a quiet January transfer window has just gone by in which no new additions were made despite the fans calling out for some.
One area in which the playing squad has certainly looked thin on the ground in is the defence, and the usually reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Louis van Gaal is interested in adding Serbian defender Nikola Maksimovic to the first-team squad when the window opens.
Maksimovic, 24, currently plays his football for Serie A side Torino whom we acquired Matteo Darmian from over the summer. The centre-back has been one of the key players in Torino’s defence since his arrival in 2013, and is already making an impression on the national stage for his native Serbia as well.
He’s a player I personally don’t know an awful lot about, but I’d much prefer to bring in a figure with some more seniority and experience back there rather than another talent who’ll take time to grow.
