Manchester United interested in signing superstar midfielder, £134m release clause: report

Manchester United had a poor summer transfer window. The club will be hoping to put that right sooner rather than later.

Now, according to Spanish media outlet OK Diario, per Football365, the Red Devils are amongst four clubs interested in signing Saul Niguez.

The 24-year-old, who played excellently against England just last week, has a £134million release clause in his current Atletico Madrid deal.

Football365 seem cagey regarding the Spanish source OK Diario, although that didn’t stop them adding the fact that FC Barcelona have first refusal on Saul – should he leave his current club.

Midfield has become an issue. I think that’s fair to say. Paul Pogba is underperforming, we haven’t seen anywhere near enough of Fred yet to pass judgement.

Saul would bring some much-needed creativity to the table. My concern would be regarding him playing with shackles. Jose Mourinho loves his players to have this defence-first mindset, that has what has cost Pogba in my opinion.

I wouldn’t see the logic in splashing £134million to bring in Saul, only for him to not be able to play his natural game. That’s assuming he wants to come, of course. He may be comfortable playing in his home country, and if Barcelona comes knocking, well, you just don’t say no…
