Manchester United are ready to go head-to-head with Manchester City in a battle to sign Jonny Evans, according to The Sun.
The reported fee to lure Evans away from West Bromwich Albion is thought to be around £20million, which is fairly low considering the astronomical transfer fees in modern-day football – and that would explain the interest in the Northern Irishman.
As you’d imagine, The Baggies want to cling onto their star defender, but with just eighteen months left on his current contract, the ball is firmly in Evans’ court, leaving WBA with no choice but to cash in on him now.
Since leaving Old Trafford, Evans has gone on to become one of the best defenders in the Premier League, and he deserves huge credit for that. It’s just disappointing that once again, United are looking at bringing someone back whom they let go for much cheaper.
What’d be even more annoying than spending money to lure him back to Old Trafford would be him going to City. That simply cannot happen at all costs, so United must pay whatever it takes to bring him ‘home’, provided Jose Mourinho’s interest is genuine.
