Manchester United keen on signing Spanish left-back this summer: report

Manchester United are keen on a move to try and tempt Jordi Alba into transferring to Old Trafford, according to the IB Times, who quote ESPN. However, the Red Devils are aware that any deal for the Spain left-back would be rather complicated.

Alba, 28, is apparently settled at the Nou Camp, following the appointment of Ernesto Valverde as FC Barcelona’s new first-team coach. However, that could change if he continues to be overlooked for the so-called ‘big games’ which was the case under Luis Enrique last term.

I guess it comes as no secret that Mourinho is trying to bolster his defensive options for the new campaign, with a move for Victor Lindelof already completed.

The left-back slot is definitely a potential problem area for the self-proclaimed Special One, as nobody nailed that position down during the Portuguese’s debut season as boss.

Opportunities were given to Marcos Rojo, who is much better as a centre-half, Matteo Darmian, who is naturally a right-back and finally Luke Shaw, who is more often than not injured.

It’s definitely a spot that is up for grabs and I’ve no doubt that Alba could come in and make that position his own. I just don’t see him leaving Catalonia anytime soon. He’s one of the best in the world in that position, in his come country, playing with the likes of Lionel Messi and winning trophies every season. Why would he switch that to come and play for United, where winning honours is by no means a guarantee.
