Manchester United keeping tabs on midfielder, sent scouts to watch him play: report

Manchester United’s summer transfer window was one to forget. It seems as though the Red Devils are doing their utmost to avoid the same situation happening again.

According to Esto, per Team Talk, United sent scouts to watch 20-year-old midfielder Roberto Alvarado. The Mexican played 45 minutes for his country during their 4-1 loss to Uruguay. It also happened to be his debut.

Apparently, the midfielder had a trial at Old Trafford six years ago, but the club opted to not offer him a deal at that time. Now, interest in Alvarado has been renewed, and it’ll be intriguing to see if the club backs it up with an official bid.

Midfield has been a real problem area for Jose Mourinho. Sure, signings have been made, but it’s fair to say Paul Pogba hasn’t quite worked out as planned, although Nemanja Matic has been excellent since swapping London for Manchester just over twelve months ago.

With young players, there is always a risk involved. Who knows how long it’ll take Alvarado to adapt to the English style of play? If he manages to adjust at all?

The good thing is that he’d likely be cheap. His current club, Cruz Azul, would be largely powerless if United came knocking. I’d like to see a bid made in January, if only to see Pogba sweat somewhat.
