Manchester United eventually managed to persuade David de Gea to prolong his stay at Old Trafford, signing a new long-term contract at the club after failing to agree a move to Real Madrid.
Throughout the saga, the 24-year old shot-stopper has remained the consummate professional and just kept working hard.
Since his return in early December our back line feels much more settled and secure which is largely down ho him.
His efforts have been recognised by The Football Supporters Federation, who have nominated the Spaniard for their Player of the Year Award.
The likelihood of him winning the award is obviously slim, when players like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have also been nominated, but the mere fact that his performances have been recognised is superb to see – as well as being a huge confidence booster.
Hopefully he can keep working hard, continue to improve and further cement his credentials as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
